TikTok plans to change the format that attracted many users.

TikTok is testing a new feature for its users, allowing them to upload videos up to 30 minutes long, which is a departure from the familiar format that made the platform popular. This information is reported by TechCrunch, citing observations from social media consultant Matt Navarra in the beta version of the app.

According to reports, this feature is available in the beta version of the app on iOS only in the UK, although some users also report its availability on Android. Initially, the platform was limited to uploading only 15-second videos, then increased the limit to 10 minutes. Extending the time to 30 minutes could pose competition for YouTube.

TechCrunch reached out to TikTok for comment on this matter, but has not yet received a response. It is also known that TikTok is updating the scroll feature, making the app more user-friendly.

Additionally, the platform aims to increase its share of the e-commerce market in the US to $17.5 billion by 2024, which could pose a significant threat to Amazon.com Inc. TikTok’s owners, ByteDance Ltd., are betting on the appeal of viral content to attract customers to their social network.
